The Amsterdam Rubber Walk: “Latex and the City”

We may have grumbled a little about the heat last Saturday – melted ice creams, melted humans – but looking back, we were incredibly lucky! Because right after Saturday, the rain came… and it hasn’t stopped since. Let’s face it: rubber and rain? Not the most practical match (unless you're a duck).

Our day started bright and early with all the preparations at Club Akhnaton. Outfits? Check. Water? Check. Nerves? Check. We were a little tense: would everyone arrive on time? Feel comfortable? Would everything flow smoothly – both literally and figuratively?

When we first kicked off the Rubber Walk last year, we never imagined that we’d be back again this year, with an even bigger, more international group of rubber lovers, brightening up the streets of Amsterdam. And what a celebration it was! Wow.

Standing together again on Dam Square, surrounded by a circle of curious onlookers, felt just as magical as the first time. Cameras clicking, amazed faces, genuine appreciation. And thankfully, the vibe was great.

Of course, we came prepared. A few sturdy security guards joined us to keep things running smoothly. Now and then, someone a bit too enthusiastic had to be gently nudged aside (we’re looking at you, excitable tourists), but most of the time, we were met with cheers and applause as our shiny squad strutted by.

And oh – what a sight it was. The most dazzling, colorful, creative latex outfits you can imagine.

Halfway through, we had a refreshing pit stop with ice cream and water at SMart – our lovely friends who’ve just moved into a gorgeous space on the Zeedijk. Inside, you’ll find a treasure trove of beautifully handmade gear for those who prefer their toys to be solid and stylish.

Recharged and slightly stickier, we made our way back to Akhnaton, where the bitterballen were waiting for us  (because what’s a Dutch party without bitterballen?). A section of the terrace was reserved for us to chat, laugh, and wrap up the day in style.

What a day. What a crowd. What a shine! Amsterdam’s streets haven’t sparkled like that in ages.

Thank you for your presence, your outfits, your energy, and your glowing faces. Next year? We’ll be back!

And a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped out behind the scenes. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Love, Iris
